Hammer of Grammar hits the comic scene

If you haven't heard of it yet, Hammer of Grammar seems to be the new breakthrough star in the WoW comic scene. I've seen it pop up in quite a few places already, and the latest comic, a great lore-filled dig at AFKers, has me completely sold-- not to mention that the comic's creator (who I'm guessing by the URL is someone named Meghan O'Hara? My kingdom for an About page!) is a big WoW Insider fan, and friends with our own Matt Rossi. So obviously they're good people.

The strip centers around a Melee Hunter named Gweryc (yes, that Gweryc) and a Human Priest named Auden (who is the author's character, I believe), but it's best when, unlike Flintlocke (which has garnered the most comparisons to so far), it avoids the adventures and just sticks to witty insight about this crazy game we play.

It's a great start for a cool comic, and hopefully we'll see a lot more from Hammer of Grammar.

My long-time personal favorite WoW database site, Wowhead, is having another one of their contests: "The Lost Screenshots." The joy of grinding

I've never cared for grinding, myself. I just can't do it. I'm easily distracted and I quickly get bored of repetitive tasks. (Don't ask me how I ever managed to kill enough Furbolg to pick up that +15 agiity enchant from the Timbermaw way back when -- I'm really not sure how I managed to kill that many of the same creature in a row without starting to tear out my hair.) However, some people relish in the grinding game, like our own BigRedKitty's friend TJ. BRK seems to have an ongoing challenge with TJ to complete some of the toughest grinds in the game. After conquoring the firefly pet they've moved on to the Wintersaber mount. I've got to say -- I tried that grind for about a day before moving on with my life. However, I have no doubt that TJ will rise to the challenge, because after picking up that firefly, this is nuthin'. What about all of you? Are you grinders who would find these challenges no problem -- or more like me, who wouldn't last seconds?

Arena season 1 set to be purchasable with honor

Apparently, this was mentioned at BlizzCon, but even reading all the marvelous coverage of BlizzCon here at WoW Insider, I managed to miss it. Drysc tells us that "as arena sets fall off they would make their way to the honor system. So when a season 3 set is released, season 1 would fall off the arena vendors and onto the honor vendors, but this may not include weapons."

So! Have you been hoarding up your honor points for that one great day when you'd be able to buy something epic with them? Are you prepared for hours and hours of hanging out in battlegrounds in order to get your desired set without having to do well in the arenas? If your answer to any of those questions is yes, you may be in luck. No official word on when Season three will come along however.

The most powerful character in Azeroth

Killah sent us a interesting question: who is the most powerful character in all of Azeroth? We've talked about this one before, but it's been a while, and considering that we've learned a lot since last December about Azeroth and what's happening in it, I'd say it's worth another look.

So who's on top? Last time around, we said Sargeras or Elune, but let's refine things a bit-- those two may both be very powerful, but Sargeras is currently "ceased to be," and Elune, who supposedly created the world, doesn't actually use that power much, does she? If she was so peaceful and in charge, why's the world called Warcraft?

Still, looking down the list, Elune does seem to top it-- if you're talking about potential power, she's it. Aman'thul and the Pantheon are up there-- they toppled Sargeras and have even killed the Old Gods. But the most powerful character that we know for certain is actually in Azeroth right now? Besides the winner of the our One Boss Leaves tournament, I'm not sure. Nozdormu? The Lich King?

Unless by "most powerful character," Killah actually means player character. In that case, I have no idea. Awake? One of the guys from Team Pandemic?

Time to play banish that game mechanic

Nathrezim of the Karazhan server posted this question today on the European WoW forums: what don't you want to see in WotLK? He threw in one limitation: no complaining about class balance or skills. Focus on quests/instances/mobs/mechanics.

That being said, some interesting comments so far include: no caster swords as faction rewards; no long runs from graveyards; and, of course, no more of the universally hated oozes.

Enchanting tweaks on the PTRs

World of Raids has pointed out some lowered enchanting costs that are showing up on the latest build of the public test realms. However, changes at present only seem to apply to enchanter-only ring enchants (if you're not familiar, these enchants soulbind the item when enchanted, so they're only useful to enchanters), so if you aren't an enchanter, the following is probably of no interest. I'm pretty sure this isn't a Blizzard PR stunt (if so, I think they would be well-advised to pick a more populated area) but instead the work of a fan, adorning this graffiti-covered wall with an image of a Troll Shaman. While it's beyond my abilities to translate what's being said (and Babelfish doesn't have a good grasp of Chinese, though for the easily amused, it provides a variety of interesting phrases if you ask it to translate for you), you can snag a couple of higher resolution screenshots here. This is the first example of World of Warcraft graffiti that I've seen, but with a game this popular, it don't think it will be the last.

We've all had our runs in with this mercenary group. Illegally mining in Mulgore. Secretly running the economy of Stranglethorn Vale. Infiltrating the Exodar. Just about every player remembers tangling with a member of this group, but not much has been seen of them lately.

CM Drysc let us know that though the Venture Trading Company has met hard times, we may be seeing them again in the future. I'm glad to hear Blizzard isn't letting this evil corporation fall away. They are part of my early Warcraft experience and I would like to see what they are up to next.

Is there any group from pre-TBC that you would like to see make a comeback in a patch or expansion?

Are you a respec addict?

I have a short attention span when it comes to games. I want something new and exciting on a fairly regular basis. Anything that stinks of grinding or monotonous play sends me running the other direction (i.e daily quests, faction grinding, key grinding etc.). This is one of the reasons I rolled a Druid. A quick trip to the trainer for a respec and I have a whole new play style to explore.

The problem is, I can't stop respeccing. A couple of weeks of playing one spec, I start fondly remembering how much fun my last one was and before I know it, I've teleported to the Moonglade Druid trainer and find myself digging into my Epic Flight fund for a chance to experience the game from a different play style perspective.

Now I'm on the PTR on premade L70s not only playing an entirely new class, but respeccing those classes as well!
